FAITH-OUR GREATEST TREASURE -Agree/Disagree??-COMMENTS WELCOME !!

     What differentiates us from the animals is not as simple as an opposable thumb or an overdeveloped cortex , but FAITH . In our age of scientific knowledge we want "facts" , empirical
"evidence". But Faith , by it's nature , is belief in the unknown ; the unprovable . Faith transcends reason , knowledge and logic and the demands of a fact-bound scientific mind . It is of the heart , so to speak , and not the mind . It cannot be put undernath a microscope or dissected in a lab . You cannot see it or feel it in your hands . It cannot be understood objectively or be easily articulated to those who do not possess it .Those who have faith FEEL it rather than UNDERSTAND it . And yet to people of faith it is as valid as the results of the most rigorous scientific experiment .
     And so it cannot be undestood by those who lack it .Faith offends their sense of logic and reason . People of faith make them uneasy . Lacking understanding , they hold it up to ridicule . Their response is to look down on Faith as foolish , delusional ; the simple - minded superstitions of the naive and the undiscerning .
     It has become fashionable to denegrate people of faith . Being religious isn't " cool " or " sophisticated " . In North America and in Europe Christianity , in particular , has become the target of late night comedians and talk show types who level their cuastic wit at believers .
     Left leaning , politically correct , humanistic, tree-hugging liberals are so eager to be super tolerant and hyper inclusive that in their angst to be tolerant of everything they end up believing in nothing !
     But in so doing they are attacking that which has comforted and strenthened millions of people for centuries . And despite their efforts it will continue to do so for many centuries to come !
     When you are terminally ill , lose a loved one or are suffering any of the many tradgedies life has to offer it is your Faith that will see you through !

     Be proud of your Faith ! Don't be afraid to share it !

     Faith is an" individual " thing , a " personal " thing . It is a gift ! Don't squander it ! It is yours and yours alone .

     Faith cannot be taken away from you , it cannot be destroyed ! It cannot be "reasoned " away !

     Cherish it , nourish it and guard and protect it at all costs !!!

     If you do this it will never let you down !!

FRANKENSTEIN IS ON THE LOOSE AGAIN !! BE VERY AFRAID !

      Remember the old Frankenstein movie - " It's alive , It's alive " . Well , Dr. Frankenstein is on the loose again . Scientists are messing with Mother Nature again . Will they ever learn ? This time round they have discovered the fountain of youth !
     They have fruit flies living 3 x longer and round worms living 6 x longer ! They do this by tinkering with a mutated gene that causes increased longevity AND they are musing about applying this technology to we lowly humans . Just think , gushes Dr. Cynthia Kenyon , Phd of biochemestry and biophysics , UCSF . We could live for 500 years !!!

     WOW , THAT'S AWESOME ! OR IS IT ?

     Jeff Goldblum's character chastises Richard Attenborough's character in Jurassic Park , " You didn't consider consequences . You just did it because you could " . He messed with MA NATURE !

     Well , ask yourself , DO WE REALLY WANT THIS ? DO WE WANT TO IMPROVE UPON MA NATURE ? DO WE WANT TIS BRAVE NEW WORLD ??

     Sure , there would be money to be made . Sales of preparation H , Depends and Viagra would skyrocket . Hearing aids , magnifying glasses , wheelchairs , canes and walkers would leap off the shelves .
     We could watch Oprah and Larry King celebrate their 1,000,000 th interviews .
     And just think how great we would be at golf , crossword puzzles and Wheel of Fortune !

     BUT CONSIDER THIS:

     We would have to live with the same spouse for 475 years !! We would have dozens of kids and hundreds of grandkids  sponging off us .
     We would be watching Jaws 100 , Rocky 200 and Rambo 300 .
     We would have all the re-runs of Matlock , Seinfeld and Big Bang Theory committed to memory . Not to mention all those ads for Slap Chop and Dollars for Gold !!
     We would suffer incontinence  , erectile dysfunction , cataracts   , hemorroids  , swollen prostates  , hot flashes and PMS for hundreds of years .

     THANKS BUT NO THANKS !!

     On a more serious note , don't forget that we would also run out of food , water , fuel , jobs and money for hospitals , doctors , senior's homes , medicare , pharmacare and pension funds !!!

     BRAVE NEW WORLD ? I THINK NOT !

     As Doc Frankenstein discovered to his chagrin , the monster you create can turn on it's creator . Don't mess with Mother Nature !

THIS IS THE COOLEST STUFF EVER - WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TALENT !!!

DO WE REALLY WANT TO LIVE LONGER ? OR--- ( WHEN CHICKENS WILL RULE THE WORLD ! )

     Hey , all you who are animal activists , environmentalists or socially concious individuals . While I am appalled by the conditions animals suffer in factory farms and am uneasy about all the chemicals injected into these animals and sprayed on our veggies and fruit I will be forced to embrace these realities soon enough and so to shall you!! These practises will not fade away into the good night as you would naively wish but will , on the contrary , thrive and increase exponentially . Gone are the days of Connie the cow and Charlie the chicken romping playfully over green breezey pastures that stretch to the horizon . The causes for which you have so bravely and vigorously fought will be crushed under the weight of cruel reality ! WHY YOU ASK ???

     First , a few sobering statistics for you to consider :
    The current world population is 6.87 billion !
    Births per year are 140 million .
    Deaths per year are 57million .
    We added 1 billion people between 1987 and 1999 .
    The united states will have 439 million people by 2050 .
    
    As if this were'nt scary enough , consider the average life expectancy upon which these population increases are based . Currently the birth rate is about 1.1 per cent and the world average life expectancy is 67.2 years . We would need 70% more food just to feed these people !!But if geneticists have their way ( and there is no reason to think they won't ) we may see people living to the age of 120 years or even up to 150 years !!!  
    Unless we have legislated contraception or forced sterilization we will eat our way out of house and home over the next 40 years ! And since this is an unlikely scenario we are left with the need for massive increases in food production .

     AND WHERE IS ALL OF THIS BOUNTY COMING FROM?????
   
   Why by increasing  factory farms aquaculture of fish and genetically engineered food ( frankenfood ) . We continue to use antibiotics and growth hormones for chickens , etc . pesticides and new generation fertilizers . The very practises you detest !!
   I am sure animal activists and environmentalists will see the irony here !! The practises they hate most will not only be necessary but absolutely critical to our survival . They will be forced to embrace that which they hate the most !!!
   
   Or open the doors to the factory farms and set the millions of  chickens free !! Maybe then the chickens will rule the world !! Oh well ---- they probably won't make any worse a mess of it then we have !!!

   

DR.OZ IS SCARING ME TO DEATH !!! HOW ABOUT YOU ??

     Dr. Oz is creating a nation of hypochondriacs and germaphobes ! Apparently the world is a hostile place filled with toxic chemicals and peopled with nasty germs struggling to destroy our innerds .
     Here is the state in which I find myself ---------
     I can't eat meat because of antibiotics and growth hormones . So , eat fish , right ? No can do -- fish is polluted with mercury ! Veggies are full of pesticides . So eat organic right ? No can do -- they are affected by toxic run-offs from polluted streams and acid rain . Nuts are bad for my diverticulitis and fruit is bad for my acid reflux . I can't drink water from plastic bottles or eat food from tins because of chemicals in the containers . And God forbid I should barbeque -- causes cancer . I'M STARVING TO DEATH !!!
     I have to wash my kitchen counters 6 times a day and my sinks 10 times ( with enviro - friendly disinfectant of course ) .I have to clean the tub and toilet twice daily . I am getting dishpan hands and need skin cream to hydrate them !!!
     I can't use the jacuzzi due to fecal coliform or use my pool due to pinworms , nemitodes and those scary little fish that swim up your urethra and hang on for dear life !!
     I padlock my medicine cabinet so my wife won't use my toothbrush or my razor . I'm afraid to sleep because of bedbugs . I am also petrified of cockroaches , fruitflies and all forms of creepy crawlies !!!
     My tight belt is crushing my insides , my tight ring is cutting off my circulation to my ring finger and my tight shoes are causing bunions and bone spurs .
     If I burp it is symptomatic of stomach cancer and if I pass gas it may mean colon camcer .
     Just the act of typing this is causing metacarple tunnel .
